  The Internet and Predators

- Letting teens use the Internet without any guidelines or limits is like giving kids the keys to the car and not giving any instructions or telling them about any of the risks. It’s like saying “go wherever you want, and have fun!”

- Online predators look for interests and needs. They move from group chats to personal chats (“your parents sound like they don’t understand you, but I do”) to a personal meeting.

- Julie’s Journey is an 3 minute online video about a girl who ran away with a predator she met online. It’s a good one for students to watch. Additional resources

insistence - “Bring your interim report home.”

- “Blackhawks” are the most powerful types of “helicopter parents” (parents who are over-involved and who hover over their children).

  Quotes of the Month
