Difficulties for the Children from Military Families

Children from military families change schools about every two years. Moving can be disruptive to a child's education, but many military parents say the red tape is the worst part. Every country, every state, every school can have different requirements. One California student never got into AP Calculus and AP Chemistry because he had to take different state history courses for the three states he lived in during high school. Transcript confusion, vaccination requirements, even honor society memberships can be major hurtles.

In Maryland and other states, legislation is under consideration that would make school transition easier. Though some politicians worry about giving up state authority, at least 24 state legislations are considering some form of red tape cutting.

  Teacher Education in Singapore

Singapore has only one teacher training university, The National Institute of Education. The Institute recruits students from the top one third of Singapore's excellent high schools. The four year teacher education program is free to every student accepted. When these students graduate, their starting salary will be higher than the starting salary of a medical doctor. The government also pays for 100 hours of professional development for all teachers every year.
