Schools eliminating school librarians
According to the NY Times, a number of schools are eliminating school
librarians. There is one librarian for every 2,146 students this
year, compared with one for every 1,447 students in 2005.
New career field - Online reputation managers
These
web specialists are hired to monitor their client's virtual image and
improve their online reputation. They also work to get rid of, or
counteract, negative posts and links. Online reputation managers
are hired by individuals, celebrities, and businesses.
Apprenticeships receiving new attention
There are more than 1,000 apprenticeship programs in the US, and many
believe that this is the best way to learn a skilled trade. The
top 4 apprenticeship programs are electrician, heavy-truck driver,
carpenter, and plumber. When apprentices start their training,
they earn approximately $14 an hour. By the end of their training, they
average almost $26 an hour.

The US has fallen from
first to ninth in the percent of its population holding a postsecondary
degree. South Korea is first.
Women currently outnumber men 57 to 43 percent at colleges across the nation.
By using the Common
Application students applying to 2 or more member colleges can save
hours of work. The Common Application has grown from 15 member

New college graduates are earning less
According to a recent study, the median starting salary for students
graduating from four-year colleges in 2009 and 2010 was $27,000, down
from $30,000 for those who entered the work force in 2006 to

Teens Online
The average teen spends 2 hours a day online and sends 1,500 texts a month.
3 out of 4 students use Facebook. The average student has 210 friends on Facebook.
70% of parents friend their kids.
Football Trivia
A form of football was played in early England, however, the
aristocracy and royalty disapproved of this distasteful game. In
1314, King Edward II went so far as to forbid the playing of football
and even threatened imprisonment. Future kings also banned
football - primarily because it took interest away from the military
sport of archery.
